We waited in Wausau, WI for a few days as storms rolled by. It rained pretty hard yesterday (Tuesday). The front moved off last night so today we had great weather to get into SD. More on that in a minute.
On Monday we visited Rib Mountain State Park (Wausau, WI). The mountain is about 2,000 feet above sea level. It has an observation tower at the top and a ski area on the North side.
Well I was going to add a couple of pictures but this connection is very slow so no pics today.
Back to today's flight. The sky was clear with winds aloft from the Northeast. Winds are usually from the West which would have been a headwind for us. We had a bit of a tailwind and were making 125-130 knots for ground speed. That allowed us to get from Central Wisconsin Airport all the way across MN into Southeastern SD. We landed at Sioux Falls, SD just after 11am. The plane got fueled up and so did we. Another call to Flight Service to check the weather and we continued on another hour and 15 minutes to Winner, SD. It's a little farming town also known for pheasant hunting in the fall. The Holiday Inn here even has kennels for the hunting dogs.
We did 4.4 hours of flying and 445 miles today.
The weather on the GPS was showing some rain in western SD so we stopped for the day. We have another 160 nm to get to Hot Springs. We hope to get there tomorrow morning.
