We started! Bar Harbor

Well we started the trip today and got to Bar Harbor Maine!
We loaded up about 130 pounds of stuff into the plane. Charts, clothes, laptop, iPad, cameras, etc. The weight and balance came out just fine.

Here's the first photo of Pete starting his trip, pulling his plane out of the hanger.

The planned route for the day was to stay west of Boston's class 'B' airspace and then northeast into Maine. Boston approach controllers cleared us into their airspace at 5,500 feet and we ended up only 10 miles west of Logan airport. It was a bit hazy but still cool to see the city from there.

After we got into NH and ME, the clouds started getting a little lower so we dropped down to 3,500 feet for the rest of the trip. The new GPS allowed us to look ahead and see what the airports in front of us were reporting for cloud heights. That was the first time we have needed to do that. It's pretty nice.

After landing, a guy from the airport showed us where to park the plane. He pointed out the Rockefeller's jet. Needless to say, we didn't park in that section!

We got a nice walk around downtown Bar Harbor, along the shore. Very scenic.

We also drove down to Northeast Harbor to see if there were any 'S' boats there, there weren't.

Here's a photo of a place nearby. Does anyone recognize this? Hint: Dan was there in 2008 with someone.

We were going to Rangeley next. Pete called up there today to see if the lodge where Pete & Peggy had their honeymoon was still there. It's not. That land has been sold off and developed. So we are figureing out the next place.

That's it for now, getting tired, it has been a long day.

  5. Wow...Bar Harbor is Rods stomping ground. I think that southeast harbor was where his dad was stationed in coast guard reserve. Will be back there soon, I hope. Have fun and good air space.
